But I have been dabbling in product shots for the surf industry that I have been an action shooter for more than a decade now. Just trying to move outside of my comfort zone. Would appreciate some constructive advise.
Thanks in advance Wink

Hi David, who are you aiming for, what market? A black background can be quite a statement and then it can be a real pain in the arse when it comes to reproducing. It nice that you got the texture out of the velcro with the hard light. It separates for the most part from the black background. All in all a good product shot depending, again, on the market.

Thanks RDP,
I actually shot the leashes for this company on white so they could do whatever. I did the black just for fun. I have worked with most major surf companies over the years shooting action for advertising purposes but have found a lot of them need solid product shots as well. I have the time and resources so I figured what the heck.
Here is another on white.

IMHO, I think it should have been shot on the beach (or in the studio to make it look like it is on the beach) to give it some connection to the sport. A black background has nothing to do with surfing. My first thought was it was some kind of vampiric bondage implement.

Ok, I get it. If it was an exercise of black on black, it was well done.

Scotti I can get you one if you want... Big Grin HAHA!
Anyways I hear what you are saying and I appreciate it. It was just a test. I am trying to teach myself different lighting schemes and modeling.

David,

Thanks for the offer, but I must decline. It might undo a lo of costly psychotherapy. Wink

It seems like there have been a ton of surf-related photogs here over the years. I never knew it could support so many people?!? I guess there's enough money in the surfing industry to go around.

And it looks like you've done well. My only product shots are for the publications I shoot for, so mine don't have to be as critical as an actual advertisement or company catalog. But still, I have to make the items look nice, and I've learned that practice makes perfect. The simplest looking shots are often the hardest to do...
