Sorry, not sure how to post images here yet... http://lennon.csufresno.edu/~hollak/index.htm EDIT BY MODERATOR: I re-posted your image for you above. The best thing to do is to resize your images in Photoshop at either 500-550 width, then save as a JPEG and use IMG tags to post. See instructions and guidelines here.

I think it would be stronger cropped, although honestly, I don't think it's got much charisma to begin with if you're going for a goofy portrait. Maybe a version with more expression in her face?

I tried cropping it a few different ways in Photoshop, but I'm not sure how much it gets you. The issue is twofold: it's a very straight portrait, and the hot light on that hand is very distracting. So, for example, you could limit the amount of information being shown, to make the image more suggestive (rather than literal), but the hot light on the hand still distracts. It seems like you know the direction you'd like to go, but you would need to try and either purposefully use contrast to your advantage, or try to smooth the lighting. Working with different angles, distances, and crops can make the portrait more interesting. Good luck!

I completely agree about the blown out left-hand. This image was a spontaneous shot taken outdoors as the summer sun was setting, say about 7 pm. The sun is coming in almost horizontal and bouncing directly off of her left hand. So, it wasn't a controled environment, but a spur-of-the-moment action on her part.
I then have tried to drop the background out and turn to B&W in PS to try and make the shot more interesting. Maybe PS can help me with the blown-out left hand.
Thank you for the the comments.

I also agree with the brightness on the hand. It also causes major shadows the way it was cropped to the point that the picture shows less detail is a good idea. Even though the picture shows less it gives it more feeling.
