I write articles on different aspects of professional photography for a web site I work on in my spare time. Any of you guys have idea on what a beginning professional would be interested in learning about? Your help would be welcome.

Thanks

MR

I used to be a professional photographer before I was killed. I do not have a profession now, but I am still wanting to shoot "professional-quality" photos and shoot semi-professional commercial photography.

Posters, Postcards, Prints, and Calendars......
like you see linked above are my only income now.

heheheh...

so, Michael, I think you're doing great with photo 101 already. your light quality and control are definitely pro. explaining how you created a certain lighting effect and including related tech info is really great to help newbies develope their own technique.

so for new ideas for your articles, sometimes the raw math equations and different theories used in photography can be hard to find, even if you know what you're looking for, so if you end up calculating magnification for a shot or using depth of light for an outdoor shot, include in your article how to do that.

if your self promotion has been particularly successful, or not, analyse why and write about it. seems like that would help you as much as your readers Wink a blog seems like a good medium for this type of discussion.

also, break down assignments from beginning to end: finding the client, landing the job, negotiating, coordinating the shoot, wrapping up and delivering the final image. I think that insight to coordinating a big shoot would be great for people who haven't gotten comfortable with getting all the details together.

oh, one last thing. my biggest problem, still being relatively new to pro photography, is figuring out how to create the best background for my subject. lighting the subject I can do, but it takes me forever to create a background that compliments my subject without overpowering it. so perhaps an article about your process of choosing a background for different subjects.

thanks, good luck,
Joe
