Hi All Just looking for some ideas on data storage. I am starting to realise I am either going to have a bucket-load of DVD's or a room full of hard-drives. Any better options?
Well, hopefully by the time I get close to filling up the devices they will make 2 TB external HD's. So then I'd have 8TB total and so on. If not then I'll start deleting... nah just kidding.

I was intrigued by Drobo, watched the movie on their site, read about it. Then I forwarded it to a friend who is head IT at a Swiss bank. For no particular reasons he said to stay away from it; I'll see if I can get more information out of him. In the mean time I'm going to buy a SilverSata system from Wiebetech; one of their trayless ones and make it a RAID1. Sweet. Also I only had to sign in once today to post although it did open it all into another window.
I think your friend is gonna say that Drobo's software is proprietary so the drives can't be read by other devices. I did deal with their customer service and they were really helpful and knowledgeable about they're machine. Please post what your friend says.
Thanks, rod
