Why is photography more powerfull than words? Is there any scientific evidence to prove this?
Why do people trust images more then other info?
Would you know of any good example where photography has actually changed the world? (I mean, really!)
Would you know of any example how it has (effectively) been misused?
FYI I am a photography myself and I'm up to defend our profession in the face of rapidly evaporating budgets.
Any input would be highly appreciated!
PS (My apologies for this repost from the biz page - no reply in days. I know guys here are more active... hope y'all are still around.) PPS Don't leave me this way!
Yeah, number 61544. You might get more response if you identified yourself.
I do know of images that have changed the world. Look at Adam's photo of the police chief in Saigon executing a prisoner, or the girl who was burned by Napalm. How could you match either with mere words?
More recently there have been misuses such as the bombing of Beirut in which a photographer added smoke where there was none.
Beyond that, who are you defending all of us from? Who am I talking to anyway?
and the D-day images of Robert Capa, and on a more peaceful note the images of Richard Avedon, both still an inspiration for todays photographers and what about all the NASA images of earth and the rest of the universe...to name a few.
