SUV to sports car ! My new photo hauler ...

After years of SUV type vehicles I recently made a big change and
downsized ..... to a sports car.

My initial thought was to buy a sports car for most of my casual day to day driving
and keep a SUV in storage for location shoot days.

But a funny thing happened while I was shopping online for a sports car, I came across the new 08 Audi TT coupe. It's a hatchback design with tiny almost useless
rear seats, that, when folded down create plenty of room for my gear.

Oh, and by the way it gets 26 mpg on average, with 35 mpg highway.
Power is not sacrificed either, it's a 2 liter turbo creating 200 hp !

Here's a link to the Audi site : mine is silver btw :

Art,

Sure looks like more fun than a SUV!

The only time I fire up my SUV (17 mpg) is on location shoot days. The rest of the time I use my GT Avalanche mountain bike (0 mpg).

I've always enjoyed my Honda Civic SI hatch backs.
With the seats folded down, I can fit a 9 foot seamless in the car and still close the hatch.

Back in the early 80's I had a 320i with an aftermarket turbo on it that was a screamer. Also had this beautiful BMW 2002 and regret ever selling it as it was a fun car to drive. Don't even remember what model year it was, maybe early to mid 70's? It was kinda funny once...something got shorted in the wiring and every time I made a right hand turn it would honk the horn. Got a lot of crazy looks driving it home and then to a repair shop with everybody wondering why I was honking at them.

a 2002 has always been my dream car, I almost bought one once but when I got there it didn't start, i took it as a sign. My photo hauler is a saab hatchback more space in the hatch than some suvs, and a lot more fun to drive turbo power.

Wise decision, seems when I had that car every time it went to the mechanic it was always $500 and that was over 20 years ago.

So... it sounds like the mid-life crisis is going as planned?
