About Canon's latest DPP raw converter's ability to correct Canon lenses aberrations (taken from Canon's site):
2. Added Lens aberration correction function (for correcting peripheral illumination, distortion, chromatic aberration, and color blur).

But I actually used it to my advantage. Shooting a retro style band to give a kind of disco-cool feel, all that junk actually works to my advantage! Now, a more conservative shot would be ruined!!!

So I bought the MkIII and 24-105 today. I can't believe there is such a back order on these cameras - 4 weeks at Calumet with 45 people already paid deposits! Anyway, found one in stock in 17th st photo and going to shoot an exterior project with it next week. I am guessing it will be better than the R1 but worse than the Phase 1! Adrian Wilson

You're funny, Adrian, you always ask for advice then get exactly what you were planning to get anyway!
Personally I would have gone with a D3 and their new 24-70 and used the price diff for a nice weekend holiday. Better lens, enough MP for backup use, with a higher res body (D3x) on the way fairly soon.

Actually - for Adrian's purposes - the new Nikon 14-24 with the G adapter from 16-9 is an incredible setup. The Nikon lens is so much sharper then the Canon 14mm.

Thanks for pointing that out! I would never, ever consider shooting wider than 24mm equivalent. For anything. I wanted to get a good resolution as this thing is backup for a 39Mp MF kit, so my clients aren't going to want to settle for much less if things go wrong with the Phase. I can actualy see it being used in conjunction anyway. I shoot details with the R1 and this camera will be used for that too. I still really miss the Mamiya 50mm's ability to focus so close - 1.8 inches! Nikon is out of the question for me. It seems obvious that they are behind canon and the MkIII is way ahead on file size of course. I was a Nikon person years ago but there is no reason for me to be one now. Nice to have a holiday with the difference in money for a cheaper camera but the fact is that this camera will probably depreciate less than a cheaper camera, so it is not an expense except in tied up capital (which is a better tax loss anyway) to buy the better equipment. Always buy the best you can afford - apart from cars! Adrian Wilson

For years I would have agreed with you but it's no longer fair to say that Nikon is behind Canon except for one thing, file size. The new Nikon full frame zooms, 14-24 and 24-70, are their best lenses to date and are way ahead of anything Canon has. Shapps isn't the only one using Nikon glass on a Canon and virtually everyone who does reports an improvement. What good is 22MP if the lens in front of it can't resolve it that well? File size parity is coming soon, I suspect. Meanwhile, I'd rather have a razor sharp 12MP file than a distorted and soft 22MP file.

You can get a grid focus screen. The 24-105 has barrel distortion and fall off at 24mm. Im surprised you didnt go for 24 T+S.

They are out. More expensive than Canon tho, like most Nikon glass.

I switched to Canon for the full frame quality and may switch back to Nikon for the lenses. Once Nikon getz "size" It will take a long time for Cannon to catchup in "glass". . . . if ever . . .
