Craig, I ran a larger EWA Marine bag around a Canon XL1 years ago, and it was fine. I don't know how deep you will be diving, but for anything near the surface they work great.
That stated, I don't know how often I would re-use one. At least with a dedicated hard body housing, you can replace O-ring seals and service the housing. Unfortunately, a hard shell housing costs quite a bit more.

i just found the HOLY GRAIL of under water housings .. every link you can think of. http://www.photorepetto.com/Digital/Pagine/CANON%20WATERCASE%20HOUSING.htm i did read up on EWA bag ... i will probably go that route.. mainly because of the type of shooting PLUS if i were to swap out cameras in a year or so it wouldn't be totally useless.. i do wish there was more info and better images of that bag.. thanks G !! ciao cw

I have not used a EWA Marine bag myself. I've considered buying one, but know several other photographers that have and they have all flooded a camera body within a relatively short period of time. If you decide to go that route I would suggest following Gordon's caveat about limited use.

Craig
I started with the EWA bag. The optical glass is very good, the bag leaked after minimal usage.

Insurance with any is a must - read it carefully. My policy will cover me throwing in a fit of rage... err dropping my camera in the ocean or getting hit by a sneaker wave while chest deep, but excludes it if used UW w/o an additional pricey rider. YMMV

Craig, I have used most of the surf housing manufacturers products with the exception of SPL. Aquatech housings are very versatile but kind of bulky and heavy. Dale Kobetich makes incredible housings but is completely unreliable when it comes to delivery deadlines. For the past year I have been using housings by Mike Waggoner and Essex Surf Housings and have been extremely happy with his boxes. In addition to being on time with delivery Mike's pistol grip assembly has a two stage switch that is far better than anything else out there that I have used. Hope that helps.
