I have been using a AquaTech housing for my 5D and I am pretty happy with it. I am pretty sure they make a housing 1Ds MK2. B&H sells the housings now. You might want to check there.

It really depends on what you plan on shooting. I have ports for the Canon 14, 15, 16-35, and 28-70. I had a slight alignment issue with one of the housings that they fixed for me. I don't know about the 17-40 port. The zoom control on the ports has been improved, the first port I had the zoom control was funky but when I sent the port in to get rethread for a different housing they updated the gearing for a zoom control also and it works better, I think there is still room for improvement. If there is a shop where you can go and look at them I would recommend that.

| well i am land locked here in Atlanta with NO kinds of surf or really any dive shops.. i will call a few but i'm sure its to no avail..
i have not shot that much underwater but how does a/the camera optics work underwater.. i know as a Diver everything under water is x .33% larger.. does that add any kind of X factor on your lens selection ??

| If you use a flat port you will have magnification, if you use a dome port you will not. The regular port for your 17-40 is a flat port. I would strongly suggest doing some research and scour through any books or online sites on the topic before spending your money. | | | |

I just glanced at the AquaTech website and didn't see a port listed for the 17-40, they might make one but that is something you want to confirm no matter what housing system you are looking at.
