Does anybody know a good way to clean those microfiber lens cloths? Can you wash 'em in the washer? Can you just rinse 'em out with hot water? I mean, I'll just try it anyway if nobody says anything, but they're ten bucks a throw and I thought I'd at least ask.

Mine appear to pick up a lot of oil from my skin and my glasses. After a while they start smearing. I know, I know, don't use the same cloth for the glasses. Not always practical.

Yes, I have very oily skin. I take a bath every day whether I need one or not, so no smart remarks, please. Well, okay, but make 'em funny, at least.

they do get kinda oily from your hand - I never even considered washing them - I just buy new ones.

I have been buying the Calumet ones - I just noticed that there are two of them - 16"x16" for $9.99 & the 8"x12" for $4.99.

I have been washing them for years in mild soap and water. Just be sure to rinse well.

StMarc,

I use Pec Pads. Clean the lens and toss 'em out.

What concerns me about washing is the residue in the form of dried minerals or soap residue that might left in the cloth.

I usually use a t-shirt to clean my lenses. Cotton is great. I've found that microfiber material kind of spreads around body oils.

Use a few drops of baby shampoo diluted in water to hand wash microfiber cloth. Rinse well and drip dry.

Do final 2 rinses in distilled water. I use Simple Green, which makes a good, fresh smelling shampoo and body wash too...

I'm in the T-shirt crowd as well, what ever I'm wearing is my lens cloth, a few breaths on the lens is my cleaning solution.

Actually, Doug, those "few breaths" on the lens before wiping it are vital to keeping the lens from becoming an expensive fog filter. That's true whether you're using a microfiber cloth or t-shirt. After 35 years of this I'll stick to my handy t-shirt.

My Optometrist provides free microfiber cloths on demand.

[Maybe I buy too many new sets of specs each year? At least I get some comps for that!]
