I'm using a Spyder pro2 with an Apple Cinema Display and I can't calibrate the monitor. After I do the calibrating it looks very Cyan. I've tried just about every combo... 2.2 gamma native, D65, D50..nothing looks right. Any suggestions (besides getting rid of the Apple Display!)

Thanks,
rod

You could try to test your spyder with another monitor to see if it work well. you could also try your monitor with another computer to see il the probleme doesn't come from your computer.

It's not the Spyder because it works well on my other computer.

Get rid of the Spyder, they are useless crap. I had 3 and none of them ever worked right; only ever screwed me up more by trusting them. Borrow or buy a Monaco/Gretag/Eye1 and literally see the difference.

how old is the ACD??

maybe try seeing if there is a software update for the spyder?

Borrow someone else's puck and compare.

I have seen some really funky looking results on ACD's - it could very well be the screen is crap - but try some other mans before getting rid of it.

Skin / John,

I posted a topic on a similar subject recently.
Andrew Rodney advised me to get the EyeOne Display-2. So would you guys second his opinion?
( A friend of mine wants to get the Spyder3, but after reading this, I think he might change his mind )
So what do you think?

Peter

There's a new Xrite product coming that will do monitors, printers, and projectors for much less $ than the Eye One Photo that I have:

www.colormunki.com

www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/550833-REG/Xrite_CMUNPH_COLOR_MUNKI_PHOTO.html

but otherwise I'd say yes get the Eye One Display 2 if you just want display calibration.

just to be sure since i am also in the market.

is the correct and current product name X-rite Eye 1 Display 2?

Or is there also an identical counterpart named gretag/macbeth eye 1 display 2?

i've already read do not get the pantone version with the same name - pantone eye 1 display 2.
maybe some sort of european version?

thanks for your help.

Xrite bought/merged with GretagMacbeth so it's the same product. X-rite is the current packaging.

FYI: I updated the Spyder software and shut off the "Gray balanced calibration" and that seems to have done the trick. Thanks all.

Since I have experience only with the Artisan and facing a monitor purchase at some point, can I expect fairly accurate results when using a calibrator such as X-Rite Eye One Display 2 on LCDs that use at least a SIPS or PVA panel?

I am trying to understand how the calibrator interacts with the OS and (any?) monitor to make this work vs. a integrated setup such as Sony's.

While shopping around for future replacement and reading various forum posts, this question keeps coming up (me) when folks talk about calibrating their Macbook or Cinema displays.

All I know is whichever I end up with will connect via DVI.

For example, if I am spanning the desktop between an Artisan and a Dell 2005-fpw (PVA), can the Dell be calibrated using the Eye One?
