What I really want is a 3g iphone with 2 line capability. I know I could get the current iphone and make it 2 line, but we'll see about the new one. I'm actually thinking of getting rid of all my land lines.

James, I'm confused. Why a 2 line cell phone? Talking to one person at a time is enough for me.

Well I ordered a 3g iphone anyway. Anyone else having to wait? Ordered mine over a week ago at an ATT store and its still on backorder.

I stood in line at the local Apple Store on July 11 at 5:30 AM. I went back yesterday for a genius bar appointment and there was still a small line for purchasers. They didn't solve my problems with IMAP email through my web host, or the known issue of the assigned custom ringtones resetting back to default after a sync, but I'm still a very happy camper.

They claim to have already sold a million of them which is pretty impressive since it's basically the same phone with 3G and GPS. Current backlog is 2 weeks, none are in stock anywhere in the US.

Well John, hopefully you and Apple will get the bugs worked out by the time I get mine! They do seem to have sold like crazy.

the 3G and GPS features are great at draining the battery, but you can switch the 3G network off. I'd bet the bugs will get remedied with the next software update.

Ya, Apple will fix the obvious bugs pretty quick, and third parties will take care of other shortcomings soon enough. Even though there are more BlackBerrys than iPhones, the iPhone is a thousand times easier to write apps for. There's a lot of good stuff already out there with lots more on the way.
Oh, and welcome to 3G, iPhone people! Yup it drains the battery but you'll get used to charging the phone every night. Too bad you can't use a second battery though, silly oversight IMO.
BTW, I've read on telcomm web sites that in certain areas, all the new 3G iPhones are slowing the system down; IOW, there's so many new users that their network is bogging down. Probably no way to fix that though... Verizon has the same problem too, my BB downloads much faster at night then in the middle of the day.

FWIW, if you didn't know already, they already have a v2.0.1 bugfix posted (get it via iTunes), and 2.1 is already in beta. The latter might even let you copy and paste between applications! (about friggin time)
BTW, can the 3G do both voice and Internet at the same time? A friend who was one can't make it work properly without dropping the call, but I'm able to do it on my Blackberry without a hitch.
