Yes, I know how crap Lacie drives are; in particular the controllers they use in combination with the rest of the units. I really thought they had a good product with their Rugged Drive. I bought one in Jan. just to do back ups to on location and the odd transferring between non networked macs. It now won't mount at all; USB, FW disk warrior, disk utility, drive genius and other macs as well. I handle it with kid gloves. I can hear it spinning inside just wont mount. Lacie tech has me in a damn email loop; one email per day to try to resolve things. Its been 4 days now and today I received nothing from them. I think I will drop it back into Samys lap and let them deal with it. All I asked of Lacie was a phone call to cut through everything but no response.
Does anyone know of a FW powered drive that is tough enough for location work?

I have yet to have a problem with my GTech mini drives. They always go on location and are powered by the firewire on the Powerbook.

Maybe I just have a charmed La Cie 160 Rugged, but it has worked on the road for 2 years of heavy work with no problems at all.
